Glory Sam-jolly
I am a Feminist and figurative painter. I currently study at University Arts of London (UAL). Born and raised in London, I asses British and Feminine identity through popular culture and history, creating iconic narratives through my own portraiture. My latest series ‘Dear Archives’, stages Black/ Asian British women in colonial settings, and is about assessing how ethnic people feel about being British.
Art history is a critical subject for me, because I realised not long ago that Black-British artists find themselves underrepresented, and majorly mis-represented in historical portraiture, a genre I have always had a personal admiration for.
My vision as an Artist is to create a unique style engineered from existing ideas, causing young artists to assess how pop culture’s prerequisites add or take away from their individual mark in the art world.
