Born in Richmond, Virginia, and molded in its skate parks, singer-songwriter and guitarist, Floyd Fuji (Kyle Thornton), now based in Los Angeles, crafts R&B uninhibited by typical expectations of the genre, inspired by an eclectic collection of greats like the Isley Brothers, D’Angelo and Two Door Cinema Club. “Drama,” Thornton’s first single as Floyd Fuji, landed on Spotify Fresh Finds, its plays quickly surpassed by those of his following releases.
Since moving to Los Angeles he’s performed in the house band for Kanye West’s Sunday Service and also collaborated in sessions with industry leaders including Babyface and Tom Misch. The debut Floyd Fuji EP Black Pontiac is just beginning to define Thornton’s sound. It evokes the nostalgia of home. The crackle of a worn-in vinyl record meets a vision set firmly on the future.
