Romance Under Razor Wire

Laura Saint Martin

Chasing that last sunset of you under

 battened-down fences, I can’t not love

your splendid disdain, your regal shuffle

through a refurbished universe, our voices

more real than lights and alarms.

I’m a puppet in the clutch of these drugs.

Just a kiss, a ribbon of smoke.

 Just one more moon.
